Water Lilies--World wide there are about 40 species plus many interesting varieties and
hybrids. The fragrant lilies are usually white whereas the beautiful colored and showy
ones are usually hybrids. Water lilies can be planted in pots, they add oxygen to the

Iris--Means rainbow, because of the wide variety of colors, They grow in deserts to
swamps including the far north climate and are considered the aristocrats of the flower
family. Iris come in three types, beardless which are mostly Asian, crested or aril,
(which need a warm climate), and bearded from central and southern Europe. The
bearded are so named because of the bushy falls or lower petals. Iris plants are both
showy and beautiful, a great accent to your backyard or water garden. They typically
require about 4 hours of sunlight. McKenzie offers 40 terrific varieties in a wide
assortment of colors, which are available in the fall as rhizomes. All McKenzie iris are
hardy to Minnesota.
